Three difficulty levels: Easy (basic file operations and system queries), Medium (network diagnostics, process management, redirection), and Hard (advanced forensics, privilege escalation reconnaissance, log analysis). Hard challenges are inspired by real penetration testing and SOC workflows.

How is my score calculated?

Your score increases with each correct answer. Bonus points are awarded for streak completions (consecutive correct answers), combo multipliers (correct answers without using hints), and clearing an entire difficulty level. The high score is saved locally in your browser.

Can I see the hint or skip a challenge?

Yes. Each challenge has a hint button that reveals contextual guidance without penalties (though it breaks your combo streak). You can also skip any challenge to move to the next one. Skipped challenges reset your streak but not your score.

Is CMD Forge suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. The Easy difficulty is designed for complete beginners who have never opened a terminal. Each challenge includes clear context (which directory you are in), a task description, and a generous hint system. Start with Easy mode on Linux for the gentlest learning curve.
